Riyadh's Urban Transformation Highlighted At AECD 2025 With Key Projects In Tourism And Sustainability

The Arab European Cities Dialogue (AECD 2025) in Riyadh hosted a panel discussion focusing on the city's urban development. The session highlighted key projects that are pivotal in transforming tourism, culture, and sustainability within the capital. Prominent figures from major development projects shared their insights on these initiatives.

Jayne McGivern, CEO of the Sports Boulevard Foundation, discussed the significant impact of their project on Riyadh's urban landscape. She noted that it integrates a healthy lifestyle with improved living standards through advanced infrastructure and modern amenities. This project is seen as a cornerstone in Riyadh's transformation efforts.

George Tanasijevich, CEO of King Salman Park Foundation, emphasized the project's dedication to sustainability. He revealed that 70% of the park's area is dedicated to green spaces, featuring over 1.1 million trees. The foundation collaborates with environmental experts to ensure these elements' long-term viability.

The remaining area of King Salman Park will be used for commercial purposes. This allocation supports financial returns necessary for its operation and maintenance through private sector partnerships. Tanasijevich assured that strict construction and operational standards are maintained to uphold sustainability commitments.

Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of Diriyah Gate Development Authority, spoke about Diriyah's role in Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage. He stated that the project aims to become a cultural and diplomatic hub. Spanning 14 million square meters with a $64 billion investment, it is progressing on schedule and within budget.

The panel discussion underscored how these projects align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals. Each initiative contributes uniquely to Riyadh's strategic transformation by enhancing tourism, culture, and sustainability.
