Riyadh University Of Arts Established To Enhance Cultural Education In Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is set to establish the Riyadh University of Arts (RUA), a significant investment in cultural education. Announced by Minister of Culture Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan, RUA aims to become a leading centre for cultural learning in the Kingdom. The university will offer diverse degrees to enhance students' impact on creative industries, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.

During the Cultural Investment Conference, Prince Bader highlighted the university's role in advancing Saudi Arabia’s cultural sector. He stated: "We are proud to launch Riyadh University of Arts as an extraordinary step in advancing Saudi Arabia’s cultural sector which enjoys unlimited support from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister."

New Riyadh University of Arts Announced

The university aims to rank among the top 50 global institutions specialising in arts and culture. It plans to create an innovative educational environment where students can explore their passions, develop talents, and contribute to the creative economy. RUA will offer a comprehensive academic portfolio covering all subsectors of arts and culture.

Initially, RUA will open with three colleges: Music, Film, and Theatre & Performing Arts. Over time, it will expand to thirteen colleges including Architecture & Design, Culinary Arts, Visual Arts, Heritage Studies, Literature, Cultural Management, Arts Management, Fashion, and more. The campus is located in Irqah, Riyadh.

The institution will provide scholarships for talented individuals in the cultural field. Full details about RUA will be available on its official website when it launches in early 2026. Partnerships with international institutions have been established to design academic programs and collaborate on research initiatives.

RUA's mission includes fostering creativity and entrepreneurial skills among students. This approach is expected to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s talent pool by empowering artists and cultural leaders who will drive growth within the Kingdom's cultural sector.

Economic Impact

The demand for skilled professionals in Saudi Arabia's cultural sector is projected to grow by 7% annually over the next decade. This growth could result in over 300,000 new jobs. By 2040, RUA aims to graduate between 25,000-30,000 students and train 1,000-1,500 teachers.

The university's focus on nurturing talent positions it as a key component of Saudi Arabia’s economic strategy. It is anticipated that the cultural sector will contribute more than SAR80 billion to the national economy by 2030.

RUA represents a cornerstone for creative education and innovation in Saudi Arabia. By supporting talents and celebrating heritage, it seeks to equip future generations with skills necessary for boosting the creative economy's growth both locally and internationally.
