Riyadh Sports Boulevard Unveils The Grove, A New Open-Air Cultural And Recreational Hub

Sports Boulevard has confirmed the opening of The Grove in Riyadh, adding a new public destination to the wider project. The open-air space is designed for sport, leisure, and culture, and aims to promote active living for residents and visitors in the capital.

The Grove stretches for 1.2 kilometres along Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Road, between the Arts Tower and Suwaid bin Haritha Street. The site covers more than 23,000 square metres and is planned as an inclusive urban area that welcomes different age groups and abilities.

Riyadh Sports Boulevard opens The Grove

The Grove includes several water features, landscaped green areas, and open plazas for community events and sports activities. Visitors find cafés, retail outlets, and children’s play areas, supported by dedicated parking. The destination also offers pedestrian paths and cycling tracks suitable for professional athletes and casual riders.

Together, these facilities support a healthy lifestyle and encourage social interaction among users. The setting provides a central meeting point in Riyadh where families and individuals can enjoy recreational time, exercise, and cultural programmes in one location. The space is intended to operate throughout the year.

The opening of The Grove follows less than a year after the first phase of the Riyadh Sports Boulevard project, which began operating in February. That initial stage introduced key locations such as Wadi Hanifah, the Promenade, the Sands Sports Park, the Arts Tower area, and the internal cycling loop at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.

The Riyadh Sports Boulevard project is one of the capital’s major development initiatives, launched by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The board of directors is chaired by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister.

Sports Boulevard: Vision 2030 goals and project scale

The project supports Saudi Vision 2030 by seeking to raise Riyadh’s ranking among the world’s most liveable cities. It aims to promote physical, mental, and social well-being, encourage a healthy and dignified lifestyle, and create an attractive urban environment for people living in the city and for visitors.

Sports Boulevard is being developed according to international standards and follows the Sports Boulevard Code, which is based on Salmani Architecture principles. When completed, it is planned to be the world’s longest linear park, extending more than 135 kilometres, with over 50 sports venues and more than 3 million square metres of investment opportunities.

Sports Boulevard: Ongoing construction and visitor information

Work continues on several remaining destinations within Sports Boulevard, including the Valley, the King Abdulaziz Road Tunnel, and the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road Tunnel. These elements are progressing in line with the approved implementation schedule for the overall programme in Riyadh.

The Grove is expected to host a varied calendar of recreational and sporting events across the year. Planned activities range from cultural workshops to fitness programmes, making the location suitable for families and individuals who want an enjoyable, health-focused experience in central Riyadh. Information for visitors is available through a dedicated page on the Sports Boulevard website at www.SportsBoulevard.sa.

The announcement regarding The Grove and the wider Sports Boulevard progress was reported at 02:25 Local Time, 23:25 GMT. The update highlighted continuing efforts to expand public sport and leisure facilities in Riyadh under project reference 0003, as part of long-term urban development plans.
