Riyadh Recognised As Arab Environment Capital For Two Years Amidst Global Environmental Initiatives

Riyadh has been honoured as the "Arab Environment Capital" for two years, a recognition given during the 35th session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environment. This session, chaired by Saudi Arabia, concluded in Jeddah. The award acknowledges Riyadh's significant efforts in environmental conservation and sustainability.

Throughout 2024, Riyadh is set to host several major environmental events. Among these is the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16). This conference will focus on advancing the convention's work, addressing challenges like drought and dust storms, and implementing the 2018–2030 Strategic Framework.

The Saudi Green Initiative was also recognised at this session with the Distinguished Environmental Project Award in the government sector. This accolade underscores Saudi Arabia's leading role in adopting strategic and sustainable environmental projects. Such initiatives align with the Kingdom's commitment to environmental preservation.

Riyadh's designation as Arab Environment Capital will see numerous activities aimed at boosting environmental awareness and promoting sustainability.
