Riyadh Metro Opens Its Doors To The Public Today With Three Lines Operational
The Riyadh Metro, managed by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), has commenced operations on three of its six lines. Following the inauguration by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, passengers can now travel on the Blue Line (Al-Olaya-Al Batha), Yellow Line (King Khalid International Airport Road), and Purple Line (Abdulrahman bin Aauf Street–Sheikh Hassan bin Hussain bin Ali Road).
The remaining three lines will be launched in stages. The Red Line, located on King Abdullah Road, and the Green Line, on King Abdulaziz Road, are set to begin operations soon. Meanwhile, the Orange Line along Madinah Road is scheduled to start later. This phased approach aims to ensure a smooth transition for commuters as each line becomes operational.

Several stations on the Blue Line are expected to open by the end of 2024. These include key locations such as Ministry of Interior, Qasr Al-Hukm, Sulaiman Al Habib, and Al Murooj. Additional stations like Murabba, Wurud 2, Bank Albilad, King Fahd District, and King Fahd Library will also be accessible. The National Museum, Al Batha, and Al-Aziziyah stations will complete this list.
On the Purple Line, An Naseem Station along Abdulrahman bin Aauf Street–Sheikh Hassan bin Hussain bin Ali Road is anticipated to open within the same timeframe as those on the Blue Line. This expansion aims to enhance connectivity across Riyadh and provide more options for daily commuters.
Passengers have multiple ways to plan their journeys and purchase tickets. They can use the "darb" mobile app or buy tickets directly from vending machines at metro stations. For further assistance or inquiries, travellers can contact the unified call center at 19933 or visit the Riyadh Metro website.
The introduction of these metro lines marks a significant step in improving public transportation in Riyadh. By offering a reliable and efficient service, it is expected to ease traffic congestion and provide residents with a convenient alternative for commuting across the city.
