The Riyadh Meetings Presidency released a statement regarding Syria after a meeting led by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. This gathering followed earlier discussions in Aqaba, Jordan. It included foreign ministers and representatives from numerous countries and international organisations, focusing on supporting the Syrian people during this crucial time.

Participants at the meeting discussed ways to help rebuild Syria as a unified, independent, and secure Arab state for all its citizens. They stressed the importance of eliminating terrorism and external aggression while maintaining Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The need for a Syrian-led political transition involving diverse political and social forces was also highlighted.

Riyadh Meetings Address Syria's Political Future

The attendees expressed their support for a political transition process that safeguards the rights of all Syrians. They emphasised dialogue to address challenges while respecting Syria's independence. Stressing that Syria's future lies with its people, they reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the choices and will of the Syrian populace.

Concerns were raised about Israel's incursions into buffer zones and areas in Mount Hermon and Quneitra Governorate. Participants underscored the necessity of respecting Syria's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud strongly condemned these incursions, describing them as violations of international law.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud highlighted the importance of lifting sanctions on Syria. He welcomed the U.S. decision to issue General License 24, which provides exemptions related to sanctions. He urged the international community to lift unilateral sanctions on Syria to expedite humanitarian aid and economic support.

The minister praised positive steps by Syria's new administration, including efforts to preserve state institutions, combat terrorism, and initiate an inclusive political process. These actions contribute to Syria's stability and territorial integrity, ensuring it does not threaten regional security.

International Community’s Role

Prince Faisal called for immediate withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Syrian territories, labelling such actions as acts of aggression and occupation. He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s rejection of these actions as violations of international law and agreements.

The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on supporting the Syrian people's choices in shaping their future. Participants agreed on the need for continued dialogue and cooperation among international partners to ensure peace and stability in Syria.
