Riyadh Welcomes 333 Students From 90 Countries For Chemistry Olympiad 2024
Riyadh will host the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) from July 21 to 30, 2024. The event is organised by the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba" in partnership with the Ministry of Education and King Saud University (KSU), which will serve as the competition venue.
The IChO 2024 is exclusively sponsored by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). This year, it will feature 333 students from 90 countries. A total of 260 chemistry experts will oversee, evaluate, and judge the competition. Students will vie for various awards, including 10 honorary certificates, 110 bronze medals, 70 silver medals, and 35 gold medals.

The final results of the competition will be announced on July 28 at 11 PM. This annual scientific contest is recognised as the largest international chemistry competition for general education students.
The International Chemistry Olympiad was established in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1968. Since then, it has been held annually over ten days in different host countries each year. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia first participated as an observer in 2004 and 2005 before sending students to compete in 2006 and 2007.
Saudi Arabia resumed its observer status from 2008 to 2010 and has consistently participated with students from 2011 onwards. Hosting the IChO in Riyadh underscores the excellence of Saudi students on an international level and enhances the Kingdom's reputation as a leading global destination for scientific events.
This year's event aims to bring together young chemistry enthusiasts from around the world to foster a spirit of scientific inquiry and collaboration. It also highlights Saudi Arabia's commitment to promoting education and innovation within its borders.
The Kingdom's involvement in such prestigious competitions reflects its dedication to nurturing talent and advancing scientific knowledge among its youth. By hosting IChO 2024, Saudi Arabia continues to solidify its position as a hub for academic excellence and international cooperation in science.
The event promises not only rigorous competition but also opportunities for cultural exchange among participants. It serves as a platform for students to showcase their skills while learning from peers across different nations.
Overall, Riyadh's hosting of the IChO is a testament to Saudi Arabia's growing influence in global educational initiatives. It marks another milestone in the Kingdom's journey towards becoming a prominent player in various scientific fields.
