Saudi Arabia: Riyadh Municipality Honours Historical Saudi Kings And Imams In 15 Major City Squares

In an effort to bolster national pride and historical awareness, Riyadh Municipality has commenced the process of naming 15 of its major squares after the revered kings and imams who have significantly contributed to the shaping of Saudi Arabia.

This move, which is part of a broader strategy to infuse public spaces with national identity, reflects the Kingdom's dedication to its rich heritage and history. The initiative, which coincides with the Kingdom's Founding Day on February 22, aims to pay homage to these historical figures for their roles in the nation's formation, unification, and progression through the centuries.

Following the guidance of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and stemming from a proposal by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, the Riyadh Municipality has swiftly acted to implement this directive.

The installation of road signs and nameplates has already begun, with field teams working diligently to update and erect new signage across the capital. This endeavor not only serves to honor the Kingdom's past leaders but also aligns with the goals of Vision 2030 by promoting Saudi Arabia’s cultural values and rich history.

The selected squares are strategically located along major thoroughfares and will now celebrate the names of influential figures such as Imam Mohammed bin Saud, Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed, and Imam Saud bin Abdulaziz, among others.

The initiative extends to recognizing the monarchs who played pivotal roles in the modern state's development, including King Abdulaziz, King Saud, and King Salman, to name a few. This homage to the leaders who have steered Saudi Arabia through three centuries of growth and unification underscores the leadership's commitment to preserving the nation's heritage.

With the immediate deployment of field teams, Riyadh Municipality is ensuring that the initiative's rollout is both quick and efficient. By updating directional markers and installing new signage, the municipality is making tangible changes that residents and visitors alike will notice. These efforts are in line with Riyadh Municipality's desire to enhance the city's aesthetic while also deepening the community's connection to its historical roots.

This initiative to name major squares after Saudi Arabia's founding and unifying figures is a testament to the leadership's vision and dedication to celebrating the nation's storied past. It highlights an ongoing commitment to honoring those who have shaped the Kingdom's destiny, while also aiming to educate and inspire future generations.

Through these efforts, Riyadh Municipality is contributing significantly to the objectives of Vision 2030, which seeks to showcase Saudi Arabia's rich historical narrative and cultural heritage on both a national and international level.
