Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center Announces New Code For Project Implementation In 15 Days

The Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center has declared that the Infrastructure Projects Code will be implemented in 15 days. This code will cover the entire Riyadh Region, which spans about 400,000 square kilometres. It includes the capital city, 22 surrounding governorates, their villages, and connecting roads. The code aims to improve safety for residents and workers while reducing disruptions and conflicts between projects.

The code outlines comprehensive guidelines for managing various road types such as highways, arterial roads, collector roads, and local roads. It also provides detailed instructions for handling works in sensitive areas and underground utilities. By regulating eight stages of the infrastructure project lifecycle—from strategic definition to operation and maintenance—it ensures a thorough approach to each project.

New Infrastructure Code in Riyadh Effective Soon

Six fundamental principles guide the code: safety and oversight, efficiency and continuous improvement, communication and engagement, leveraging technology and data, environmental sustainability, and community consideration with site accessibility. An integrated system of performance indicators is included to measure execution quality and site safety.

These indicators assess various aspects such as the percentage of projects with zero injuries, environmental or community complaints, adherence to licensing schedules, use of local materials, and stakeholder satisfaction levels. The aim is to ensure high standards are maintained throughout all phases of infrastructure projects.

The code introduces a detailed classification of violations related to safety, cleanliness, licensing compliance, road quality, site management, signage and information, environmental impact, and community effects. This classification helps address issues effectively by setting clear standards for all stakeholders involved in infrastructure projects.

All parties engaged in these projects—government agencies, utility providers, contractors, consultants, and laboratories—are targeted by this unified reference. The goal is to enhance coordination among them through standardized practices that improve the quality and safety of infrastructure works.
