Riyadh Design Law Treaty Adopted To Enhance Designers' Rights And Global Creativity

Saudi Arabia recently hosted a significant event where the Riyadh Design Law Treaty was formally adopted. This took place during the Diplomatic Conference on Design Law Treaty at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center. The treaty aims to create a legal framework that strengthens designers' rights and aids in protecting their creative works.

The Riyadh Design Law Treaty underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to enhancing international cooperation within the creative industries. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Suwailem, CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), remarked: "The name ‘Riyadh Treaty’ reflects Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role as a bridge between cultures and a hub for supporting global initiatives."

Dr. Al-Suwailem further stated, "Adopting this treaty is a historic achievement highlighting Saudi Arabia’s cooperation and contribution to the international intellectual property framework. It opens new avenues for collaboration among member states." His comments emphasise the importance of this treaty in fostering global partnerships.

This landmark achievement enhances Saudi Arabia’s reputation as a global leader in promoting innovative initiatives. It showcases the nation's commitment to nurturing a creative ecosystem that safeguards designers’ rights and supports the growth of creative industries worldwide.

The Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty was organised by SAIP in Riyadh from November 11 to 22. The event saw participation from WIPO’s 193 member states, along with high-level representatives and decision-makers attending.

The adoption of this treaty marks an important milestone in unifying design registration procedures globally. It lays down essential legal frameworks that benefit designers while boosting innovation and creativity on an international scale.
