Riyadh Residents Can Now Enjoy Enhanced Bus Services. Here's How

Residents and visitors of Riyadh can now enjoy enhanced connectivity and accessibility across the city, thanks to the complete unveiling of the Riyadh Bus routes. This development marks a significant milestone in the city's public transportation network, offering full access to various districts through dedicated bus lanes – a first in the region. The announcement made on December 19, 2023, outlines the completion of the main Riyadh Bus network, a project that saw its fourth phase launch in October, earlier in autumn.

The Royal Commission of Riyadh City (RCRC) has been instrumental in rolling out and continuously expanding the Riyadh Bus service. With over 50 routes, 2,100 bus stations, and 670 buses now operational, the network spans more than 1,500 kilometres. Further expansion plans include the addition of 33 more feeder routes, enhancing the city's transportation landscape significantly.

New Routes to Explore

The newly revealed dedicated bus lanes extend the King Abdulaziz Road to Al Iskan District BRT 11, the As Suwaidi – Ash-Shifa Route BRT 12, and Khalid Ibn Alwaleed Route BRT 13, among others. These lanes facilitate the seven new routes introduced as part of the network's fourth stage of expansion. Notable among these are routes from Al Rabea district to Al Yasmeen station (932) and from Al Nuzha to Al Taawoun station (933), offering residents and tourists alike new avenues to explore Riyadh.

Ticket Information

Commuters have several new options for purchasing Riyadh bus tickets. The introduction of the Darb card and ticketing options starting from SAR4 for 120 minutes of travel time offers flexibility and convenience. For extended stays, there are day passes available for three days, a week, or an entire month, allowing unlimited travel across the bus network. These tickets can be acquired from select ticketing kiosks and are supported by the Riyadh bus app for ease of access. Moreover, contactless payment through credit or debit cards, as well as smartphone payment apps, is now possible, streamlining the travel experience in Riyadh.

Expanding Reach And Accessibility

The Riyadh Bus service, integral to the King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport (KAPT), aims to provide comprehensive and world-class public transportation options. Since its inception last year, the service has executed over 631,000 trips, transporting more than 11 million passengers. The phased expansion has seen the addition of hundreds of buses and bus stations, significantly broadening the network's reach and making it easier for residents and visitors to navigate the city.

With dedicated bus lanes now operational, commuters are poised to enjoy reduced traffic issues and increased efficiency in travel times. This initiative not only promotes the use of public transportation in Riyadh but also contributes to the city's broader goals of sustainability and accessibility. As the network continues to grow, Riyadh is set to become an even more connected and commuter-friendly city.
