Riyadh Air Celebrates First Anniversary, Aims To Fly To 100 Countries By 2030
Riyadh Air, the newly established airline from Saudi Arabia, has reached its one-year milestone, showcasing a year filled with significant partnerships and agreements that span both locally and internationally. The airline, which emerged on March 12, 2023, has its eyes set on launching operations in 2025 and aims to connect Saudi Arabia with 100 countries by 2030. Its journey over the past year has been marked by strategic collaborations intended to foster digital leadership in aviation sustainability and innovation.
Throughout its inaugural year, Riyadh Air has entered into agreements with numerous technology and engineering giants such as Lufthansa Systems, IBM Consulting, Swiss AS, CAE, Microsoft, Oracle, Sabre, and Accenture. These collaborations are designed to streamline travel experiences and bolster the airline's technical readiness for its 2025 maiden flight. Further enhancing its technological prowess, Riyadh Air has also partnered with Adobe and IBM, concluding its first year on a note of continuous progress.
The airline's commitment to becoming the world's most innovative carrier is evident in its focus on sustainability, customer comfort, and hospitality. CEO Tony Douglas expressed pride in the accomplishments of the past 12 months and anticipation for the future. "2023 was a monumental year for Riyadh Air...we're only just getting started," Douglas remarked, highlighting the ongoing momentum towards the 2025 maiden flight and the vision to redefine the aviation industry.
To commemorate its first anniversary, Riyadh Air has initiated the 'Riyadh Air Team' social media campaign, offering insights from its team members on the airline's journey thus far. This campaign will be featured across Riyadh Air's social media platforms in the coming weeks.
Year One Achievements
A notable achievement in Riyadh Air's first year includes placing a significant order for Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, alongside a deal for 90 GEnx engines to power this fleet. The airline received the global aviation ecosystem's unique 'RX’ code and revealed its dual-livery designs in Paris and Dubai. Its first livery was showcased during a flight over Riyadh, preceding its public debut at the 54th Paris Airshow.
In terms of strategic partnerships, Riyadh Air signed Memorandums of Understanding with Saudia and Turkish Airlines and entered into a pioneering partnership with Lucid Motors. These collaborations signify Riyadh Air's intention to strengthen the aviation ecosystem within Saudi Arabia and beyond. Specifically, the MoU with Turkish Airlines marks Riyadh Air's first significant agreement outside Saudi Arabia, aiming to enhance the travel experience between the Kingdom and Türkiye.
Another milestone was the multi-year partnership with the Spanish football club, Atlético de Madrid, where Riyadh Air was named the main and official airline partner. At the 56th Arab Air Carriers Organization AGM and the Future Investment Initiative, CEO Tony Douglas provided updates on Riyadh Air's journey towards its first commercial flight and its alignment with Vision 2030. Lastly, Riyadh Air marked its presence at the World Travel Market in London, showcasing its vision alongside 75 partners and stakeholders.
