RGA Establishes Comprehensive Eco-Friendly Parking Standards Under Saudi Road Code

The Roads General Authority (RGA) has revealed that the Saudi Road Code now includes detailed standards for designing eco-friendly parking facilities. This aligns with the Kingdom's goals to boost road safety, enhance life quality, and support sustainability in its road network.

The updated standards highlight the need for integrating electric vehicle (EV) charging stations with designs that are both efficient and accessible. Parking layouts should aim to minimize land use and incorporate green spaces to improve air quality. The use of eco-friendly construction materials is also encouraged to cut carbon emissions.

To improve energy efficiency, the code suggests using LED lighting technologies. This not only enhances visibility but also reduces energy consumption. Additionally, advanced technology-driven solutions like pre-booking systems, smart guidance, and electronic payment systems are recommended to lower emissions and streamline parking management.

The Saudi Road Code acts as a unified technical reference for both governmental and private entities involved in road infrastructure development. It provides comprehensive guidelines, procedures, and technical specifications to aid in the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of roads.

Emphasizing sustainability and readiness for emerging technologies like autonomous vehicles is a key aspect of these guidelines. The code will remain advisory until the end of 2024. From January 2025 onwards, compliance will be mandatory for all governmental bodies.

Private sector entities must adhere to the code by mid-2025. The RGA stresses that these initiatives aim to elevate Saudi Arabia among the top six countries globally for road quality, aligning with its Vision 2030 objectives.
