Historic Jeddah District Buildings Restored Under Crown Prince's Directives

Under the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a significant restoration project has been successfully completed in the Historic Jeddah District. This initiative, part of the broader Saudi Vision 2030, was made possible through a generous donation of SAR50 million from HRH the Crown Prince himself. The Ministry of Culture, through the Jeddah Historic District Program, has spearheaded this effort to preserve and enhance the district's rich heritage and architectural legacy.

The project underscores HRH the Crown Prince's commitment to conserving the Kingdom's historical sites, reflecting its Arab and Islamic heritage. The Historic Jeddah District, known for its wealth of over 600 heritage buildings, 36 historical mosques, and five main markets, stands as a testament to the region's rich past. The restoration initiative aimed not only to safeguard these structures but also to revitalize key historical areas such as the ancient Waterfront. This site, pivotal in the history of Hajj pilgrimages since Islam's inception, is set for reconstruction to share its significant narrative with visitors.

Jeddah Historic Buildings Restored

Five specialized Saudi companies were selected by HRH the Crown Prince to undertake this monumental task. These firms conducted thorough studies and carried out restoration works under the guidance of experienced technicians familiar with historical buildings. Their efforts were focused on maintaining the unique urban design and architectural elements that define the Historic Jeddah District. Notably, some of the buildings restored have been part of Jeddah families' heritage for over 500 years, containing archaeological landmarks of immense value.

The completion of this project marks a pivotal moment in the Kingdom's ongoing efforts to preserve its cultural heritage while advancing towards the ambitious goals set out in Saudi Vision 2030. Through such initiatives, Saudi Arabia aims to showcase its rich history and cultural depth on both a regional and global stage.
