Reem Al Hashimy Advocates For UAE's Vision Of Global Cooperation At BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting In Brazil

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) participated in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 28th to 29th April. Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, led the UAE delegation. This was the UAE's third participation since becoming a full member in 2024. The meeting gathered foreign ministers from the expanded 10-member bloc to discuss peace, multilateral reforms, and economic resilience.

Al Hashimy stressed the significance of strategic cooperation amid global changes. "The UAE considers BRICS a uniquely positioned forum, one that brings together diverse perspectives, fosters consensus, and enables credible responses to shared challenges. This strength must be harnessed with strategic purpose," she stated. Her remarks highlighted the importance of inclusive dialogue and regional partnerships for sustainable peace.

UAE's Vision for Global Cooperation at BRICS

The UAE's approach to economic diplomacy was also emphasised by Al Hashimy through the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA). These agreements align with the UAE’s vision for fostering resilience and shared prosperity. On the sidelines of the meeting, Al Hashimy engaged in bilateral discussions with BRICS counterparts to strengthen trade, investment, and multilateral cooperation.

Al Hashimy also highlighted revitalising multilateral institutions to make them more inclusive and effective. She pointed out that these institutions should reflect today’s global realities. Additionally, she stressed placing emerging economies and youth at the centre of international decision-making processes.

The UAE's active involvement in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting underscores its growing influence in shaping collaborative solutions for global challenges. The nation aims to build a more inclusive, balanced, and sustainable international environment through its participation.

The UAE delegation included Saeed Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs and the UAE’s BRICS Sherpa, along with Saleh Al Suwaidi, UAE Ambassador to Brazil. Their presence reinforced the country's commitment to engaging with BRICS members on crucial issues affecting global stability.

Al Hashimy reiterated that isolation cannot achieve sustainable peace but through "inclusive dialogue, economic cooperation, and regional partnership." This reflects the UAE’s long-standing diplomatic approach towards building lasting peace.
