Red Sea Labs Unveils Selected Teams For SeriesLab Program To Enhance TV Storytelling Skills

Red Sea Labs, a program under the Red Sea Film Foundation, has unveiled the teams chosen for the second SeriesLab edition. This initiative, in partnership with Film Independent, aims to nurture creative autonomy in TV storytelling. The program offers an intensive training environment for 14 emerging TV writers and creators, blending virtual and in-person residencies to enhance scriptwriting skills.

The selected teams include "B'itha" from Saudi Arabia with writer Noorah Al-Eidi and producer Sheheryar Ahsan. From Lebanon, "Saria Othman Needs No Man" features producer Hiba Louis and writer Estephan Khattar. Iraq and Saudi Arabia's "Bazuzu's Breath" includes writer/producer Ali Kareem and co-writer Dania Altayeb. Kenya's "Generation A" is represented by writer Mona Ombogo and producer Louise Kamwangi.

Red Sea Labs Reveals SeriesLab Teams

Uganda's team "Switch" consists of writer/producer Nathan Magoola and co-writer Lucky Lola Atwine. India presents two teams: "Cold Case-One (Pullukandam Murder Case)" with scriptwriter Nithin Lukose and co-writer Hari Krishnan, and "Shani Bazaar" featuring scriptwriter Karan Kabir and co-writer Nitin Koul. These diverse teams will work towards completing their series pilots by the program's end.

Shivani Pandya Malhotra, managing director of the Red Sea Film Foundation, stated, "The Foundation remains at the forefront of advancing the film industry through education, mentorship, funding, and more." She emphasized that Red Sea Labs is pivotal in nurturing new talent. The SeriesLab program reflects their dedication to developing skills across all filmmaking areas.

Ryan Ashore, director of Red Sea Labs, highlighted the benefits of partnering with Film Independent: "Our partnership with Film Independent gives our writers direct access to the critical tools, mentorship, and industry connections needed for success." He believes this collaboration will enhance the SeriesLab program’s impact on a global scale.

The training includes a two-week trip to Los Angeles for workshops and participation in the Film Independent Forum. María Raquel Bozzi from Film Independent expressed excitement about welcoming these creators: "We are excited to welcome this group of talented creators in the SeriesLab to Los Angeles." This experience aims to equip filmmakers with essential tools and connections.

SeriesLab Program Timeline

The second SeriesLab edition runs from September to late December, aligning with the fourth Red Sea International Film Festival. Participants will pitch their series at the Red Sea Souk event. This opportunity allows them to showcase their projects on an international platform while gaining valuable industry exposure.
