Red Sea International Film Festival Opens Fourth Edition Celebrating Global Cinema In Historic Jeddah
The Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) has kicked off its fourth edition, themed "The New Home of Film," in Historic Jeddah, Al Balad. The festival's opening night featured the world premiere of "The Tale of Daye's Family," a Saudi-Egyptian co-production. This event aims to position Saudi Arabia as a key player in the global film industry while supporting talent from various regions.
The festival offers a rich programme that includes seminars, training workshops, and numerous film screenings. Jomana Al-Rashid, Chairwoman of the Red Sea Film Foundation, highlighted the foundation's commitment to promoting Arab filmmaking. She noted that this year's festival will feature 122 films in 49 languages from 85 countries. This diverse selection underscores the festival's dedication to celebrating cinematic talent from around the world.
Acting CEO Mohammed Asseri expressed enthusiasm about the festival's offerings. He stated that "The Tale of Daye's Family" exemplifies cultural exchange and connection, reflecting their aim to present top-tier Arab cinema. Asseri added that attendees can anticipate an engaging 10 days filled with programming, discussions, and collaborations.
The opening ceremony paid tribute to several stars, including British actress Emily Blunt, Egyptian actress Mona Zaki, and Indian cinema legend Aamir Khan. Vin Diesel received a Special Recognition Award during the event. These honours highlight the festival's role in acknowledging significant contributions to cinema.
