Red Sea International Airport To Welcome First Flight In April
Red Sea Global (RSG) is on the brink of a significant development as Red Sea International Airport (RSI) gears up to welcome its first international flight on April 18, 2024. Operated by flydubai, the service will link Dubai International Airport (DXB) directly to RSI, marking the commencement of a new twice-weekly connection that enhances the global accessibility of The Red Sea destination. This move comes after RSI initiated domestic operations in September 2023, with Saudia airlines, and is now set to increase to eight flights weekly with the inclusion of flydubai.
John Pagano, Group CEO at Red Sea Global, highlighted the importance of this launch, noting the airport's potential to accommodate one million guests annually and its strategic location within a three-hour flight of 250 million people. Pagano expressed enthusiasm about this critical step towards positioning Saudi Arabia as a prime global tourism hotspot, extending a warm invitation to visitors from the UAE, the wider Middle East, and beyond.
RSI is pivotal in providing access to The Red Sea destination, already home to two luxury resorts: Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red Sea, and St. Regis Red Sea Resort. The latter recently welcomed the famed footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and his family. With the upcoming openings of three more resorts - Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Shebara, featuring unique overwater villas, and Desert Rock, cradled among mountains - the destination promises an expanded array of luxury accommodations.
Michael White, Chief Commercial Officer of Red Sea International Airport, described the launch of international flights as a thrilling next phase for RSI, building upon its domestic services initiated last year. White reiterated the airport's commitment to delivering top-notch services to passengers and airlines alike, aiming to broaden its network for global travelers.
RSI is also leading the way in sustainability, on track to become the first carbon-neutral airport in the Middle East. Through innovative measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions, optimizing energy usage, and enhancing resource and waste management, the airport aligns with LEED Gold Certification standards and Dark Sky Guidelines. These measures include employing local construction materials and relying on 100% renewable energy, among others.
Sudhir Sreedharan, Senior Vice President at flydubai, expressed pride in being the inaugural airline to facilitate direct flights from the UAE to RSI. This operation, he noted, reaffirms flydubai's dedication to connecting underserved markets and boosting connectivity via Dubai's aviation hub.
Looking towards the future, The Red Sea is expected to boast 50 resorts featuring over 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties by 2030. These will be complemented by luxury marinas, golf courses, and a plethora of entertainment and leisure facilities, further establishing the area as a luxurious global destination.
