Red Sea Global Unveils Progress In Annual Sustainability Efforts For 2023
Red Sea Global (RSG) has published its fourth annual sustainability report, showcasing its progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. The report highlights the company's commitment to achieving a 30% net positive environmental impact by 2040. It also emphasises RSG's dedication to transparency and accountability in its development projects.
The 2023 report details several significant environmental accomplishments. RSG powered the initial phase of The Red Sea destination entirely with renewable energy and installed 150 electric charging stations for sustainable transportation. Additionally, over 5 million plants were cultivated in the Red Sea Landscape Nursery, and 600,000 mangrove seedlings were planted across four locations.

John Pagano, RSG Group Chief Executive, stated, "Our latest annual sustainability report embodies our deep commitment to setting innovative standards in responsible development. We are making steady progress towards achieving a net positive environmental impact of 30% by 2040 in the areas surrounding our tourism destinations."
The report also highlights social achievements. The "Jewar" application was launched to engage with the local community, share news and opportunities, and gather feedback. Over 3,300 new employees were recruited, more than 50 students graduated with distinction, and nearly 74,000 training hours were provided.
In addition to these efforts, RSG initiated a volunteer program focused on mangrove planting and beach cleaning. This program saw participation from over 200 volunteers. Furthermore, carbon reduction initiatives prevented the emission of 46,350 tons of CO2.
Tourism Developments
The Red Sea destination welcomed its first guests last year with three hotels opening their doors. The Red Sea International Airport began regular domestic flights in September 2023 and will start international flights in April 2024. A weekly service between the Red Sea and Dubai International Airport is planned.
"The work of our team in renewable energy, marine and terrestrial environmental protection, social development, and clean transportation demonstrates that tourism can be developed in innovative and sustainable ways," Pagano added. "I hope this achievement will inspire the entire sector to adopt the principles of regenerative development in its future projects."
Future Plans
The "Thuwal Private Retreat" is set to open soon to the south of the Red Sea destination. Preparations are also underway for welcoming guests to the AMAALA destination in 2025. This coincides with completing the first phase of "Triple Bay," which includes eight resorts, Corallium, and an iconic Yacht Club.
The sustainability report underscores RSG's ongoing efforts to protect and restore coral reefs through collaboration with leading marine scientists. These initiatives reflect RSG's broader commitment to responsible tourism development.
The comprehensive details provided in RSG's sustainability report demonstrate significant strides towards their ambitious ESG goals. Their achievements serve as a model for sustainable tourism development worldwide.
