RDIA Introduces National Initiatives To Enhance Health And Wellness During Health Innovation Week

The Research, Development, and Innovation Authority (RDIA) has unveiled a series of initiatives during Health Innovation Week, part of the Global Health Forum 2024. These initiatives are designed to boost research and innovation in health and wellness, aligning with national goals to address healthcare challenges both locally and globally.

One significant initiative involves national missions in partnership with the Ministry of Health. These missions aim to cut the prevalence of non-communicable and infectious diseases by half by 2035. The focus is on enhancing prevention and treatment quality to promote a healthier society.

RDIA Launches Health and Wellness Initiatives

The RDIA introduced the Health Research Excellence Award to stimulate research and innovation in health and wellness. In the Lifetime Achievement Category, several distinguished individuals were honoured: Professors Ziad Memish, Rajaa Al-Raddadi, Yaseen Arabi, Fowzan Alkuraya, Hanan Balkhy, Mohamed Temsah, Mahmoud Al-Jurf, Jaffar Al-Tawfiq, Khalid Al-Habib, and Imad Tleyjah.

In the Applied Innovation Category, Dr. Feras Khalil and Dr. Hani Najm received accolades. Meanwhile, in the Innovative Companies Category, Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries & Medical Appliances Corporation, Tabuk Pharmaceuticals, and Jamjoom Pharma were recognised for their contributions.

The authority also announced research grants prioritising health and wellness for the 2024 cycle. These grants offer up to 120 million Saudi riyals to over 100 health research groups. The funding supports three national initiatives focusing on basic sciences, applied research, and emerging Saudi researchers.

This financial support aims to bolster Saudi Arabia's leadership in scientific research both regionally and internationally while fostering an innovative environment within the Kingdom.

National Research Alliance

The RDIA revealed the formation of the National Research Alliance comprising more than 30 entities across Saudi Arabia. This alliance seeks to coordinate efforts in cancer research and combating infectious diseases. It aims to advance scientific knowledge within the health sector.

These collaborative efforts are expected to enhance scientific progress in health and wellness domains by unifying research activities across various organisations.

Through these initiatives, RDIA continues its commitment to advancing healthcare solutions that meet both local needs and global challenges effectively.
