RASID Smart Service Launched By SFDA To Verify Controlled Medications For Travellers To Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has introduced the Regulatory AI System for Incoming Drugs (RASID), a smart service designed to regulate controlled medications brought by travellers. Dr. Hisham Aljadhey, CEO of SFDA, unveiled this service during the Global Health Exhibition at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center in Malham from October 27 to 30.

RASID represents a significant shift from traditional monitoring methods to a proactive, data-driven approach. Developed by Saudi experts at the SFDA Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL), it aims to streamline the process of monitoring controlled drugs carried by visitors to Saudi Arabia. This system addresses challenges like slow procedures and difficulties with multilingual medications and handwritten prescriptions.

SFDA Launches RASID for Medication Verification

The RASID service automates matching controlled medication components with patient conditions or prescribed dosages. It supports over 50 languages, ensuring high accuracy and speed in processing. This innovation enhances the experience for those entering Saudi Arabia by simplifying medication checks.

Launched in February, SAIL is a dedicated platform for developing AI-based solutions to improve SFDA's regulatory processes. RASID is one of its key outputs, showcasing the authority's commitment to adopting advanced technologies for better efficiency.

This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's Health Sector Transformation Program objectives. It fosters partnerships with government bodies and tech companies to exchange knowledge and develop capabilities. Such collaborations aim to enhance innovation within the health sector.

By integrating artificial intelligence into regulatory processes, RASID contributes significantly to improving operational efficiency at SFDA. The system not only facilitates faster processing but also ensures compliance with regulations, benefiting both authorities and travellers alike.

The introduction of RASID marks a step forward in leveraging technology for public health safety in Saudi Arabia. As part of broader efforts under Vision 2030, it highlights the country's dedication to modernising its healthcare infrastructure through innovative solutions.
