Rashid Al Nuaimi's Visit To UAE Pavilion At Expo 2025 Osaka Celebrates Cultural Heritage And Collaboration
Rashid Al Nuaimi, the former Foreign Minister of the UAE, revisited Osaka to see the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025. This visit holds historical significance as it marks over 50 years since he led the UAE's first participation in a World Expo. His return symbolises the UAE's ongoing dedication to international dialogue and cooperation.
During his visit, Al Nuaimi was welcomed by Shihab Al Faheem, the UAE Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025. Together, they explored the Pavilion, which is themed "Earth to Ether." This immersive experience showcases the UAE’s journey from its cultural roots to its advancements in space exploration, healthcare, and sustainable technology.

Al Nuaimi also met with 46 Youth Ambassadors at the Pavilion. This group includes 24 Emiratis, 20 Japanese nationals, and two Japanese-speaking residents. These ambassadors were selected through a competitive process and play a crucial role in sharing the Pavilion's story with visitors, acting as a link between cultures.
The UAE’s involvement in Expo 1970 was pivotal. It marked its pre-union appearance on a global platform, offering insights into a nation on the brink of formation. Al Nuaimi’s recent visit to Expo 2025 brings this journey full circle, connecting past leadership with present ambitions and collaborative storytelling.
The design of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 draws inspiration from the date palm tree, an emblematic symbol of Emirati culture. The pavilion reimagines traditional areesh architecture using agricultural palm waste combined with Japanese woodworking techniques. At its centre is an impressive oasis featuring 90 columns made from date palm rachis that reach up to 16 metres high.
Reflecting on past collaborations, Al Nuaimi stated: "Expo ‘70 was an opportunity and a chance to showcase what we had... It was also part of our Founding Father late Sheikh Zayed’s vision and his boundless ambition for development." He emphasised that trust built over these years has strengthened ties between both nations.
Al Nuaimi noted that Japan still remembers their collaboration after fifty-five years. He highlighted how this partnership has grown deeper and more beneficial over time. He expressed hope for continued cooperation and trust between both peoples, encouraging contributions from everyone involved.
This momentous occasion not only celebrates past achievements but also looks forward to future possibilities. The enduring relationship between the UAE and Japan serves as a testament to shared goals and mutual respect.
