Ras Al Khaimah To Revolutionize Tourism With Electric Air Taxi Network
Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) and Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) have embarked on a pioneering venture with Skyports Infrastructure, a leader in the development of vertiport infrastructure for electric air taxi services. This collaboration is set to revolutionize sustainable tourism through electric air mobility, with plans to establish a network of vertiports that will connect key attractions across Ras Al Khaimah. This initiative is in line with RAKTA's Strategic Plan 2030 and aims to position the Emirate as a futuristic destination.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the parties outlines a plan to collaboratively design, develop, and operate Ras Al Khaimah's inaugural electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi ecosystem. With commercial operations anticipated to start by 2027, this project promises to integrate Skyports' vertiport infrastructure with RAKTA's existing transport network. This integration will offer rapid, convenient, and zero-emission transport options to the Emirate's most frequented locales, including Al Marjan Island, Al Hamra, and Jebel Jais—the UAE's tallest peak.

Visitors and residents will benefit from significant time savings; for instance, the journey from Al Marjan Island to Jebel Jais will be reduced from approximately 70 minutes by car to less than 20 minutes via air taxi. This transformation in transportation is expected to support Ras Al Khaimah's goal of attracting 3.5 million visitors annually by 2030 while promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
The initiative also addresses the critical need for innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions in ground transportation, which represents 40% of greenhouse gas emissions in the travel and tourism sector according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). Moreover, it opens up future possibilities for integration with air taxi networks across the UAE.
Esmaeel Hasan Al Blooshi, Director-General of RAKTA, emphasized the transformative potential of electric air mobility for Ras Al Khaimah's transportation landscape. This move aligns with their strategic vision for 2030, aiming to enhance accessibility and reduce environmental impact. Raki Phillips, CEO of RAKTDA, mentioned that within the next two years, the authority intends to lay down the infrastructure necessary for an electric-powered transit system, reshaping tourist experiences while adhering to sustainable tourism objectives.
Duncan Walker, CEO and founder of Skyports, expressed his enthusiasm about joining forces with leading transport and tourism entities in Ras Al Khaimah to introduce electric air taxi services. This partnership underscores their commitment to delivering essential infrastructure for zero-emission aviation throughout the UAE.
This collaboration between RAKTA, RAKTDA, and Skyports Infrastructure marks a significant step towards realizing a sustainable future for transportation in Ras Al Khaimah. By harnessing electric air mobility, the Emirate is not only enhancing connectivity between its key attractions but also setting a benchmark for environmental responsibility in the region.
