Ras Al Khaimah Art 2024 Draws Global Talent, Over 45,000 Attendees

Ras Al Khaimah Art has emerged as a significant cultural event in the UAE, drawing attention from across the globe with its vibrant celebration of arts and culture. In 2024, the festival is set to welcome an impressive lineup of 106 local and international artists from 35 countries, alongside an anticipated audience of over 45,000 visitors. This flourishing event underscores the Emirate's commitment to fostering cultural exchange and showcasing artistic talent.

The inception of Ras Al Khaimah Art was inspired by H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. Initially launched in 2013 at the Ras Al Khaimah National Museum as a three-day exhibition, it has since evolved into a month-long annual celebration under the guidance of Dr. Natasha Ridge, Founding Executive Director of the Al Qasimi Foundation and event organiser.

Ras Al Khaimah Art 2024: Global Cultural Fest

Dr. Ridge's vision for expansion was sparked by a visit to La Gacilly in France, where she encountered a village transformed into an outdoor art gallery. This experience inspired her to envision a similar concept for Ras Al Khaimah Art, ultimately selecting Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village as the ideal location. This UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate is the UAE’s last-surviving pearl-fishing village, offering a unique blend of history and culture with its ancient architecture and traditional dwellings.

"It’s not just an art festival; it’s also a historical site, which attracts a much wider audience," Dr. Ridge remarked on the significance of the venue. The festival's repertoire has expanded significantly to include workshops, film screenings, live performances, and an art exploration programme. Last year alone saw the participation of 1,000 students in various educational activities, highlighting the event's role in connecting youth with their cultural heritage.

Ras Al Khaimah Art not only serves as a platform for showcasing local and international artistic talent but also plays a crucial role in promoting Ras Al Khaimah as a cultural destination. Through its diverse offerings and sustainable approach to arts education, the festival contributes significantly to the cultural and economic development of the UAE.
