Advanced Materials Workshop In Ras Al Khaimah Highlights Global Collaboration And Innovation

The 17th International Workshop on Advanced Materials has ended in Ras Al Khaimah after three days of intensive sessions, plus a dedicated student day, bringing together more than 200 scientists, researchers and students from over 20 countries to discuss materials science and its impact on global challenges.

The programme combined keynote lectures, panel debates, poster sessions and technical talks, all centred on advanced materials research and its role in supporting sustainable development, energy efficiency, environmental protection and next‑generation technologies, with organisers aiming to connect scientific progress with practical outcomes across multiple sectors.

Ras Al Khaimah Advances Materials Collaboration

A key highlight of the International Workshop on Advanced Materials was the opening address by H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, followed by the presentation of the Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials Science to Professor Omar Yaghi, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Professor Omar Yaghi received the Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials Science in recognition of outstanding and transformative scientific work, while discussions during the International Workshop on Advanced Materials stressed how close cooperation between universities, research centres and industry partners is essential to turn laboratory discoveries into technologies that can be deployed at scale.

The International Workshop on Advanced Materials programme also featured organised visits to major industrial firms in Ras Al Khaimah, including RAK Ceramics, Julphar Gulf Pharmaceuticals and Caresoft Global, where participants saw how advanced materials and scientific research are already integrated into manufacturing, healthcare and engineering operations across the Emirate.

Engagement extended beyond visiting scientists, as the Ras Al Khaimah Educational Innovation and Sustainability Competition ran alongside the International Workshop on Advanced Materials, drawing 403 entries from schools across the UAE under the coordination of Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge, with winning students receiving awards from RAKCAM board members.
