RAKEZ Achieves Silver Award For Best Waste Diversion Initiative At MEWAR Awards 2025

Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) has been recognised for its sustainability efforts by winning a silver award at the Middle East Waste & Recycling (MEWAR) Awards 2025. The accolade, in the Best Waste Diversion Initiative – Government Sector category, highlights RAKEZ's commitment to reducing environmental impact and fostering a circular economy within its industrial and business community.

RAKEZ has implemented a comprehensive waste management strategy aimed at minimising landfill use and enhancing resource recovery. This framework includes strict waste disposal regulations, mandatory environmental assessments for industrial applicants, and ongoing awareness campaigns. These measures guide businesses on effective waste prevention, segregation, and recycling methods.

RAKEZ Wins Silver at MEWAR Awards

The ‘My RAKEZ My Emirate’ campaign is a key initiative encouraging stakeholders to recycle materials such as paper, glass, plastic, metals, and aluminium cans. Since 2022, over 1.18 million kilograms of recyclable waste have been diverted from landfills, saving approximately 27,700 cubic metres of landfill space.

RAKEZ's engagement initiatives involve both companies and employees in repurposing old equipment and office materials. This approach has led to successful reuse or resale as recyclable scrap. Additionally, treated wastewater is reused for landscape irrigation, conserving over nine million gallons of fresh water annually.

The environmental benefits of these efforts are significant. Over 78,000 trees have been preserved, carbon emissions have been reduced by more than 164,000 pounds annually, and energy savings exceed 2.6 million kilowatt-hours. Financially, these initiatives have resulted in over AED 1.2 million in savings and revenues through recycling and reduced landfill disposal.

To improve access to recycling facilities, RAKEZ has installed recycling collection units across its industrial areas. Partnerships with organisations like the Emirates Environmental Group further drive community contributions towards national sustainability goals.

Commitment to Sustainability

Ramy Jallad, RAKEZ Group CEO, expressed pride in their sustainability achievements: "We are proud to see our sustainability efforts gaining local and global recognition. This award is a testament to the strong commitment of our clients, partners and employees who share our vision for a cleaner, greener and more responsible industrial ecosystem."

RAKEZ continues to advance initiatives that promote efficient resource use while supporting Ras Al Khaimah's broader goals under RAK Vision 2030. These efforts aim to drive sustainable development and ensure long-term economic resilience across the emirate.
