RAK Ruler Witnesses Signing Of MoU To Launch First Air Taxi Service In Ras Al Khaimah By 2027
H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, observed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce an air taxi service in Ras Al Khaimah by 2027. This agreement involves Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority, Joby Aviation from the US, and Skyports Infrastructure from the UK.
The MoU was signed at Sheikh Saud's palace in Saqr bin Mohamed City. Present were JoeBen Bevirt, CEO of Joby Aviation, Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, and Eng. Esmaeel Hassan Alblooshi from Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority. Several senior officials also attended this significant event.
Sheikh Saud highlighted that this initiative aligns with the UAE's vision for innovative and sustainable mobility solutions. It aims to enhance quality of life and strengthen Ras Al Khaimah's global standing as a hub for living, working, tourism, and investment.
He further noted that this project represents a significant leap forward for the emirate. It connects current ambitions with future achievements that will benefit generations to come.
This collaboration combines RAKTA's support with Skyports' expertise in vertiport infrastructure and Joby's eVTOL aircraft technology. Together, they will design and operate the first air taxi service in Ras Al Khaimah.
The service is part of RAK’s 2030 Mobility Master Plan. It addresses the increasing demand for fast transport within Ras Al Khaimah and across the UAE.
Enhanced Connectivity
The air taxi network will not only serve Ras Al Khaimah but also create an inter-emirate corridor. This will link Joby's planned Dubai service to key hospitality sites in Ras Al Khaimah.
This development promises significant reductions in travel times for commuters and tourists alike. For instance, a trip from Dubai International Airport to Al Marjan Island could take under 15 minutes by air taxi compared to over an hour by car.
Aircraft Features
Joby's aircraft can carry a pilot and four passengers with minimal noise and zero emissions. It offers faster, quieter travel for short distances, enhancing regional mobility.
This service aims to provide convenient air travel options for quick trips across the region, making commutes more efficient.
This strategic partnership marks a step towards modernising transport solutions in Ras Al Khaimah. It reflects a commitment to innovation while improving connectivity within the UAE.
