RAK Hospital Launches UAE’s First Y-DNA Ancestry Testing For Paternal Heritage Insights

RAK Hospital introduces a groundbreaking service that allows individuals to delve into their paternal ancestry through the latest Y-DNA testing technology. This pioneering test, the first of its kind in the UAE, utilises advanced Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and unique bioinformatic algorithms crafted at RAK Hospital's NGS Laboratory in Ras Al Khaimah.

Designed to complement the existing Ancestry Testing, it requires only a simple saliva sample to reveal detailed insights into one's paternal lineage, enhancing the understanding of family roots from five to over 100 generations.

RAK Hospital s New Y-DNA Ancestry Test Launched

The Ancestry Testing service offered by RAK Hospital employs genetic analysis to map out one's ethnic background, family origins, and lineage by comparing DNA with that of populations around the globe.

This comparison sheds light on an individual's ethnic makeup, potential relatives, and ancestral history stretching back approximately 5–7 generations. Now, with the addition of Y-DNA testing, the service has expanded to provide a more comprehensive view of one's heritage.

Y-DNA testing is especially significant as it focuses on the Y chromosome, present only in males, which remains unchanged through direct paternal lines. This makes it a powerful tool for tracing male ancestry, understanding human migration patterns, and studying population evolutions over millennia.

Through this test, men can explore where their paternal ancestors originated and follow their migration paths across thousands of years. The results include access to an interactive map that visually traces these ancestral journeys across the globe.

Dr. Hafiz Ahmad, leading the Molecular Division at RAK Hospital, emphasizes the profound impact of uncovering one's past through Ancestry and Y-Haplogroup testing. He highlights the ability to connect individuals to their historical heritage and explore migration paths in ways that were not possible before locally.

Dr. Ahmad notes that Haplogroup J1 (J1-P58), identified as the major Arabic haplogroup, signifies the DNA similarities between the UAE population and those across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, reinforcing the UAE's position as a historical hub of trade and cultural exchange.

Dr. Ashendu Pandey, CEO of RAK Hospital, remarks on the human fascination with origins and how modern technology now enables an unprecedented exploration of this curiosity. The introduction of NGS-based ancestry and Y-DNA testing marks a significant advancement in making ancestry science more accurate, accessible, and personal for everyone in the UAE.

According to Dr. Raza Siddiqui, Executive Director at RAK Hospital, this journey of discovery reconnects individuals with their ancestral past, making history feel alive and personal through the stories encoded in their DNA.

The process to begin this journey is straightforward. Interested individuals can order a saliva collection kit online, provide their sample from the comfort of their home, and send it back for analysis. Results are typically available within 4–6 weeks and can be accessed via email or through the RAK Hospital mobile app. To further aid in understanding the comprehensive reports, RAK Hospital offers free consultation sessions every Friday.
