Quba Mosque Undergoes Historic Expansion To Welcome More Worshippers
The Quba Mosque in Madinah, renowned as the first mosque established by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) following his migration from Makkah, continues to be a pivotal site of worship. With the Prophet laying its foundational stones and his companions completing its construction, the mosque's historical and spiritual significance is unparalleled. Situated mere kilometers from the Prophet's Mosque, it attracts both residents and visitors for its esteemed virtue in prayer.
As one of Madinah's largest mosques, Quba Mosque hosts all daily prayers, including the special Friday and Eid prayers. Over the years, it has seen several renovations to preserve its rich heritage. Notably, in 1388 AH, its external walls were restored and its northern side expanded. A significant milestone was reached in 1405 AH when King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud ordered a comprehensive rebuilding and expansion, ensuring the preservation of its heritage features. Post-expansion, the prayer hall spanned 5,035 square meters, with the total area including service facilities reaching 13,500 square meters, a substantial increase from its original 1,600 square meters.

Further enhancing its facilities, a library and marketing area were introduced to better serve the mosque's visitors. Continuing this legacy of development, a monumental expansion was announced during the reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Named after King Salman, this project is set to increase the mosque's total area to 50,000 square meters, allowing it to accommodate up to 66,000 worshippers. This expansion is the largest in the mosque's history and underscores its importance as a major historical and spiritual center.
This ambitious expansion not only reflects the Saudi leadership's commitment to preserving Islamic heritage but also aims to enhance the spiritual experience for worshippers at Quba Mosque. By increasing its capacity tenfold, the project ensures that more individuals can partake in prayers within this historically significant mosque. The initiative highlights Saudi Arabia's dedication to maintaining and enhancing its religious sites, ensuring they continue to serve as places of worship and spiritual reflection for generations to come.
