Quayola's Transient Performance Showcases Innovation At Diriyah Art Futures Opening
Multimedia artist Quayola captivated audiences at the opening of Diriyah Art Futures (DAF), the first New Media Arts hub in the Middle East and North Africa. His audiovisual performance, Transient: Impermanent Paintings, originally created in 2020, was a highlight. This performance showcases the blend of human creativity with technological innovation.
The immersive concert featured two motorized pianos and video projections reminiscent of impressionist art. These elements combined in real-time to explore the delicate interplay between artistic expression and generative algorithms. Quayola collaborated with musician and technologist Seta to create this unique experience.

Transient employs complex algorithms to redefine the concert experience. It intertwines improvisational musical compositions with dynamic generative visuals. This approach blurs the boundaries between natural and artificial spaces, a hallmark of Quayola's work.
Diriyah Art Futures aims to continue hosting transformative experiences like Transient. The hub seeks to showcase the vast potential of New Media and Digital Art through various exhibitions and performances.
DDAF's inaugural exhibition, titled "Art Must Be Artificial: Perspectives of AI in the Visual Arts," will feature workshops and performances running until December 15. These events aim to delve into the role of artificial intelligence in visual arts.
This weekend, on November 29–30, DAF will host two masterclasses led by renowned exhibition artists. These sessions are designed to provide deeper insights into New Media Art practices.
A Vision for Global Recognition
In a recent announcement, Diriyah Art Futures expressed its ambition to become a leading global center for New Media Art. By offering innovative programs and exhibitions, DAF hopes to attract international attention and participation.
The initiative reflects a commitment to fostering creativity and technological advancement in the region. For more information on upcoming activities and programs, visit DDAF's official website.
