Qiddiya Strengthens Commitment To Environmental Sustainability And Biodiversity Initiatives
Qiddiya Investment Company is advancing a tree preservation and relocation initiative to enhance life quality and curb pollution, aligning with its dedication to environmental sustainability. This effort supports Saudi Vision 2030 by merging urban growth with nature, focusing on protecting local tree species like the acacia tortilis, which benefits various wildlife.
The company follows the 2021 Environment Act and works with national entities such as the National Center for Environmental Compliance and the National Center for Wildlife. This collaboration ensures adherence to international standards while promoting biodiversity and natural system protection.

A "nature first" approach is central to Qiddiya’s project master plan, emphasizing natural beauty and accessible green spaces. The preservation process involves field surveys to assess tree health, aiming to keep trees in their original spots whenever possible.
If relocation is necessary, trees are moved within Qiddiya or to a holding facility until they can be incorporated into landscaping plans. Currently, about 3,000 native trees are housed in a nursery where they are monitored until replanting. This supports biodiversity, soil stabilization, and sandstorm protection.
Qiddiya collaborates with the Green Riyadh project to bolster environmental initiatives citywide. By 2025, it plans to expand relocation efforts and assess replanting success rates by 2026. Some sites will open for public educational activities, setting an example for sustainable development in Saudi Arabia.
Educational Initiatives and Future Plans
The company aims to partner with universities and research centers to monitor outcomes. It values government support in leading tree preservation and wildlife management efforts across the Kingdom. "We aspire to lead tree preservation efforts," reflects Qiddiya's commitment to sustainability.
