Qatar To Distribute Over 700,000 Iftar Meals Ahead Of Ramadan

In a significant move to support fasting individuals during Ramadan 2024, the General Department of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Qatar has announced a large-scale initiative to distribute over 700,000 Iftar meals. The announcement came during a press conference held at the Ministry's headquarters in Al Waab, revealing details about the 'Iftar Saim' campaign set to unfold across 20 strategically chosen locations in Qatar.

Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, the director of the General Department of Endowments, highlighted the campaign's objective to reach more than 24,000 fasting individuals daily. With a focus on areas of high population density and labor sectors, the initiative aims at ensuring that a significant number of fasting people benefit from the meal distribution efforts.

Strategic Distribution Points

The campaign will feature Ramadan tents equipped for dining in 15 locations, including Ain Khalid, Al Sailiya, and the Industrial Area. Moreover, additional distribution points will be established in pivotal urban areas such as the Old Airport, Umm Ghuwailina, and Souq Faleh, maximising accessibility for those observing Ramadan.

Sheikh Khalid emphasized the community-building aspect of the initiative, stating, "The Iftar project for the fasting person is a crucial community initiative of the General Department of Endowments during Ramadan, aimed at promoting solidarity among society members." He also invoked a prophetic tradition to underline the importance of providing Iftar to fasting individuals and called for generous donations to support the campaign.

A Growing Initiative

With each passing year, the 'Iftar Saim' campaign has garnered increasing support from donors, which has allowed it to extend its reach and impact significantly. According to the General Department of Endowments, this project operates under the Endowment Fund for Righteousness and Piety and is known for its inclusive approach. By setting up dining-equipped tents and meal distribution points, the campaign endeavors to ease the burdens of many workers while fostering a sense of belonging through shared meals.

The General Department of Endowments also encouraged public donations, directing potential benefactors to the Department's website where contributions can be made towards the endowment. By selecting an Iftar location of their choice, donors can actively participate in this communal effort.

The 'Iftar Saim' campaign not only aims to assist those in need with their fasting obligations but also sees communal gatherings as opportunities for advocacy, awareness, and education, strengthening the fabric of society during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
