Qatar Meteorology Department Issues Alert For Rain And Strong Winds

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather report detailing conditions expected inshore and offshore until 6pm on Wednesday. The forecast predicts hot daytime temperatures with scattered clouds, which may become partly cloudy occasionally. There is also a possibility of scattered, maybe thundery, rain alongside slight to blowing dust in some areas at times.

Particularly, the department has issued warnings for thundery rain expected to last until noon and strong wind conditions affecting most areas by the evening. For those planning outdoor activities or sea voyages, it is crucial to note these weather changes and prepare accordingly.

Offshore regions are anticipated to experience cloudy skies with chances of scattered, potentially thundery, rain until noon, after which it should become scattered clouds. The report also warns of thundery rain in places until noon, followed by strong wind and high seas by the afternoon, indicating rough conditions for marine activities.

The wind direction inshore will be predominantly northwesterly, ranging from 10 to 20 knots, and could gust up to 32 knots at times. Offshore, the wind will vary between northwesterly and northeasterly, with speeds of 8 to 18 knots, gusting to 28 knots by the afternoon. These conditions suggest that both inshore and offshore areas will experience significant wind strength, affecting visibility and sea state.

Visibility and Sea State

Visibility inshore is expected to be between 5 to 10 kilometers, dropping to 3 kilometers or less at times. Offshore visibility will range from 4 to 8 kilometers, but like inshore, it can reduce to 3 kilometers or less during thundery rain. This reduced visibility could impact travel and outdoor activities, urging caution among residents and visitors.

The sea state inshore will initially be between 1 to 3 feet, rising to 4 feet by the afternoon. Offshore conditions will be slightly harsher, with waves starting at 2 to 5 feet and increasing up to 9 feet by the afternoon. These conditions are particularly important for maritime operations and recreational sea activities, suggesting a need for heightened awareness and safety measures.

This comprehensive weather update provides essential information for individuals and organizations to make informed decisions regarding their activities and operations in the affected areas. With the expected weather conditions, it is advisable to take necessary precautions, especially in planning maritime ventures and outdoor events.
