Qatar Authorities Warn Public To Stay Alert Against Online Fundraising Fraud
Qatari officials have issued a caution regarding the rise of fraudulent fundraising activities online. They urge the public to exercise caution and remain alert to scams designed to exploit people's generosity.
This warning comes from a collective effort by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB), the National Cyber Security Agency, the Ministry of Interior (MoI), and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority. They have taken to social media to communicate their concerns and offer advice on how to avoid being deceived by these illegal operations.

To combat the threat of these fraudulent activities, the authorities have provided specific guidelines. They advise the public to make contributions exclusively to reputable and officially recognized charitable organizations.
They also warn against responding to donation requests received via phone calls, emails, or social media messages, especially those that employ high-pressure tactics or emotional manipulation to solicit funds. The goal is to ensure that the goodwill of donors is not taken advantage of by unscrupulous individuals or groups.
Additionally, the authorities have established a hotline number (3361 8627) and recommend using the Metrash app—a security services application—to report any suspicious solicitation attempts. This proactive approach demonstrates the commitment of Qatari officials to safeguard their citizens and residents from online fraud, particularly in the realm of charitable giving. By being vigilant and adhering to the provided guidelines, individuals can help ensure that their donations reach legitimate causes and contribute positively to society.
