Qatar Announces Expected Start Date For Ramadan 2025
Ramadan 2025 is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, according to astronomical calculations conducted by the Qatar Calendar House in coordination with Al-Ajari Scientific Center in Kuwait.
The announcement, based on precise lunar observations, states that the crescent moon will be born on Friday, February 28, at 3:45 AM Doha and Kuwait time (12:45 AM UTC). If visible, this crescent will mark the beginning of the Islamic month of fasting.
While astronomical predictions provide an estimate, the official confirmation of Ramadan's start still rests with the Crescent Sighting Committee at Qatar's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. The committee will review reports from moon sighting observers before making a formal declaration.
Eng. Faisal Al Ansari, Executive Director of the Qatar Calendar House, noted that the crescent moon is expected to set 32 minutes after sunset on February 28, making it possible to spot in Qatar and Kuwait. If confirmed, fasting will begin the following morning.
For many, knowing the expected start date of Ramadan well in advance allows for spiritual and logistical preparation—from planning community gatherings and prayers to adjusting daily routines.
As Muslims worldwide prepare for a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection, this announcement offers clarity and a sense of anticipation for the holy month ahead. However, as always, the final word belongs to official moon sighting authorities, who will confirm the start based on actual visibility.
For now, Saturday, March 1, remains the expected beginning of Ramadan 2025, pending official confirmation.
