Qassim Region Celebrates Milestone Of Five Million Trees Planted Under Green Qassim Land Initiative
Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Qassim Region, has praised the Green Qassim Land Initiative for successfully planting five million trees. This effort is part of the larger Saudi Green Initiative (SGI). During a recent meeting with involved parties, he acknowledged the contributions of both government and private sectors, especially highlighting the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture's (MEWA) Qassim branch and the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC).
The governor expressed appreciation for MEWA's and NCVC's innovative use of materials seized from environmental offenders. These materials are being repurposed for sustainable reforestation projects, particularly in Qassim National Park. He also stressed the region's dedication to improving vegetation cover and protecting the environment.

Eng. Salman Al Suwainea, Director-General of MEWA's Qassim branch, confirmed that the Green Qassim Land Initiative has advanced through various stages with help from governmental and non-profit organizations. This collaboration is crucial in meeting SGI's goals. The initiative aligns with broader environmental objectives by fostering partnerships across different sectors.
Ali Al-Asmari, Director of NCVC's Qassim branch, detailed their support for the initiative. They have planted over 1.165 million trees in national parks and identified 442 environmental regulation violations in 2024. These efforts contribute significantly to the initiative's success.
The plan includes planting five million trees by 2030. Ongoing activities such as land reclamation and seed scattering will continue to enhance vegetation in the region. These efforts are part of a long-term strategy to combat desertification and improve ecological health.
The governor emphasized that these initiatives reflect a strong commitment to environmental sustainability in Qassim. By leveraging resources effectively, they aim to create a greener future while addressing environmental challenges.
This comprehensive approach not only supports local biodiversity but also aligns with national efforts under SGI to promote sustainable development across Saudi Arabia.
