Qassim Land Initiative: Leading The Way In Responsible Consumption And Sustainable Production

Qassim Region, known for its fertile lands and renowned dates, is setting an example in Saudi Arabia by merging agricultural traditions with modern sustainability. Under the guidance of Qassim Region Governor Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, the "Qassim Land" initiative was introduced to foster green cities and a circular economy, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production.

The initiative aims to improve production methods, recycle materials, and make use of agricultural waste while boosting exports to international markets. In July, the Saudi Green Building Forum highlighted this initiative at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum as a successful Saudi model for localizing sustainable development goals and integrating them with the circular economy.

Qassim Land Promotes Sustainable Practices

Eng. Faisal Alfadl, secretary-general of the Saudi Green Building Forum, noted that the Qassim governor’s initiative has been documented through a standardized framework that promotes innovation and sustainability. He stressed that adopting a circular economy is essential for ensuring food and environmental security.

The Qassim date industry, dubbed the "Arab Silk Road," has reached global markets. Prince Faisal bin Mishaal announced the launch of the "International Date Route," marking it as the first global path connecting the date industry with the historic Silk Road. This initiative aims to export over 578,000 tons annually, strengthening Saudi Arabia's position as a global hub for date trade and supporting Saudi Vision 2030.

The Saudi Green Building Forum will host its 15th edition in 2025 at Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City (Misk) in Riyadh. The event will gather more than 3,000 participants and 50 notable international speakers across 20 specialized sessions. Leading companies like Saudi Aramco, Nesma & Partners, Climatech, Roshan, and Shaker Group will participate.

The sessions will address challenges facing green cities and propose innovative nature-based solutions. The forum aims to foster multilateral agreements and connect businesses, industries, and local experiences with global agendas. It will take place from October 1–2 under the theme "Activating Green Action through Nature-Based Solutions, Urban Sustainability, and Multilateral Agreements in light of Saudi Vision 2030."

This comprehensive approach highlights how Qassim Region is leading efforts to blend traditional agriculture with modern sustainability practices. By focusing on responsible consumption and production methods, it sets a benchmark for other regions aiming to achieve similar goals.
