Discover The Timeless Craftsmanship Of The Prophet's Mosque Doors Reflecting Islamic Values
The 100 doors of the Prophet’s Mosque stand as a testament to the ongoing care and attention the mosque has received over time. These doors are not only functional but also beautifully crafted, showcasing intricate designs and precise workmanship. They embody Islamic values of openness and peace, welcoming everyone regardless of their appearance or language.
These doors are remarkable examples of Islamic art, featuring elaborate decorations and unique engravings that highlight the mosque's architectural identity. Among the most significant are those constructed during the expansion project led by the late Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz. This expansion was designed to meet high international standards.

The expansion includes seven main entrances: three on the northern side and two each on both eastern and western sides. Each entrance branches into seven large doors, with two positioned apart and five placed adjacent in between. These doors measure 3 meters in width and 6 meters in height, with a thickness exceeding 13 centimeters.
Despite their substantial size, each door weighs around 1.25 tons but can be easily opened or closed with one hand. This is possible due to a special mechanism that ensures high flexibility in use. The doors were crafted from over 1,600 cubic meters of premium teak wood.
Each door incorporates more than 1,500 gold-plated copper pieces engraved with a circular design bearing the name "Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah Almighty." The manufacturing process involved several countries: gold-plated copper was polished in France; wood was sourced and assembled in the United States; it was dried in specialized ovens in Barcelona, Spain, over five months.
The wood was later laser-cut, polished, gold-plated, and assembled using traditional interlocking techniques without nails. With their artistic richness, these doors remain a symbol of enduring Islamic identity—an iconic feature blending historical fragrance with present-day splendor.
