Prophets Mosque Accessibility: Ramadan Services For Elderly And Disabled At The Prophet's Mosque
The Prophet's Mosque is offering a wide range of accessibility measures during Ramadan to support elderly visitors and people with disabilities. These services aim to make religious rituals easier and safer, so worshippers can focus on prayers in a more comfortable environment despite heavy crowds.
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has built a comprehensive service system for this purpose. The authority states that these arrangements are part of an ongoing plan to improve facilities for all visitors, with extra focus on peak periods in Ramadan.

The Prophet's Mosque now includes extensive infrastructure to help with movement inside and around the complex. There are 180 elevators and 156 escalators serving the courtyards and facilities, while 24 internal staircases support the flow of worshippers. These features are especially important when visitor numbers rise during key prayer times.
Accessible prayer zones have been prepared close to main entrances, so elderly people and wheelchair users can enter and leave more easily. Ramps now link entrances and internal facilities, improving access for mobility aids. Zamzam water points include stands designed for wheelchair users. In total, 62 restrooms are reserved for elderly visitors and people with disabilities in both men’s and women’s sections.

Special arrangements are also in place for people with sensory disabilities. A dedicated section for deaf worshippers is located on the western roof near Gate No. 6. The Friday sermon is interpreted in sign language. Copies of the Quran in Braille are available to assist worshippers with visual impairments while performing their religious practices.
Prophet's Mosque accessibility services and mobility options
Mobility support has expanded through electric carts and wheelchairs that operate across the mosque’s courtyards. A free cart loan service works from exits 309 and 343, helping visitors who need extra assistance. All these measures, reported by SPA at 22:27 local time, reflect the authority’s strategy to provide worshippers and visitors with safe, accessible and comfortable conditions throughout Ramadan.
