UAE Announces Official Holiday Date For Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH) In September
The UAE has marked the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday (PBUH) as the next public holiday, falling on Friday, September 5, for both the private and public sectors. This announcement was first made by the Federal Authority For Government Human Resources and was followed by a confirmation from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) for the private sector. This holiday will provide workers in Dubai with a three-day weekend, as it aligns with the standard weekend days of Saturday and Sunday.
MoHRE took to Instagram to announce this holiday, stating, "The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, an official paid holiday for the private sector in observance of the Prophet's Birthday. Warm greetings to the leadership, people, and residents of the UAE on this blessed occasion."

The Islamic calendar, which is lunar-based, plays a crucial role in determining the dates of religious observances and events within the Muslim community globally. This calendar consists of 12 months but is around 10 to 12 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, given that each month is either 29 or 30 days long, depending on the sighting of the moon. This discrepancy causes Islamic dates to annually shift in relation to the Gregorian calendar.
The Prophet Muhammad's Birthday is one of the four public holidays in the UAE that is dependent on the Islamic calendar's timing. This reliance on lunar cycles for marking significant dates underscores the traditional and religious adherence in the region, affecting how these dates move through the Gregorian calendar over the years due to the shorter lunar year.

This event, like other Islamic holidays, underscores the cultural and religious fabric of the nation, celebrating with reverence the Prophet Muhammad's birthday while also providing a time for relaxation and family gatherings.
