Prof. Michael Klein Honoured With Sheikh Saud International Prize At IWAM 2024

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has recently honored Professor Michael L. Klein with the 2024 Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials Science. This accolade is in recognition of Prof. Klein's significant contributions to the field of Advanced Materials Science. The award, established in 2018 by the Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAKCAM), reflects H.H. Sheikh Saud’s commitment to fostering advancements in Materials Science both within the UAE and globally.

The Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials Science includes a gold medal, a commemorative plaque, and a monetary reward of $100,000. Prof. Klein received this prestigious award during the 15th International Workshop on Advanced Materials (IWAM 2024), where he also delivered an insightful lecture on polymers.

Michael Klein Wins Prestigious Science Prize

Prof. Klein, the Laura H. Carnell Professor of Science at Temple University, USA, is celebrated for his pioneering work in computational materials science. His research spans several areas, including chemical physics, soft matter, biophysics, drug discovery, and physiology. Prof. Klein's notable achievements have earned him esteemed positions such as Fellowship of the Royal Society, London, in 2003 and Membership of the US National Academy of Sciences in 2009.

Sir Anthony Cheetham, Chairman of RAKCAM and a previous recipient of the Sheikh Saud International Prize, praised Prof. Klein's distinguished career and contributions to the field. He also expressed gratitude towards H.H. Sheikh Saud for his ongoing support and vision that encourages scientific innovation and education.

The IWAM event is supported by Stevin Rock, one of the world's leading quarrying companies with an impressive production capacity exceeding 80 million tons annually. This sponsorship underscores the importance of industry partnerships in promoting scientific research and development.
