Private Sector's Essential Contributions To Advancing Transport And Logistics Highlighted By Minister Saleh Al-Jasser

The private sector plays a crucial role in Saudi Arabia's transport and logistics industry, according to Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser. He stated that 80% of investment targets are anticipated to be achieved through diverse partnership models. This was discussed during the third Public Investment Fund (PIF) Private Sector Forum in Riyadh.

Al-Jasser highlighted the progress made since the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) was introduced in mid-2021. He noted successful collaborations with private entities, particularly in maritime transport and port investments, which have exceeded SAR 18 billion. Most of this funding comes from private companies.

Minister Highlights Private Sector in Transport

The minister also mentioned the involvement of private firms in aviation and airport infrastructure projects. New airports are being constructed, and four existing ones—Abha, Taif, Qassim, and Hail—are now open for private investment. Additionally, significant road projects like the Jazan-Abha highway and Jeddah-Jazan expressway are underway.

Air transport saw a 26% increase in 2023, with flight destinations rising by 15% in 2024. This marks a 50% growth compared to pre-strategy levels. Improvements have also been seen in road quality, safety measures, and regulatory frameworks.

Al-Jasser emphasized that localized passenger transport services enabled around 80 million trips in 2024. This growth is largely driven by private-sector investments across various areas. The strategic partnership with the private sector is expected to continue enhancing investment levels and service quality.

He reiterated the high expectations for ongoing collaboration with private entities to further develop the transport and logistics sector. The minister underscored that these partnerships are vital for achieving investment goals and improving service standards.

In conclusion, Saudi Arabia's transport sector is witnessing significant advancements due to active private-sector participation. This collaboration is essential for meeting investment targets and enhancing infrastructure across the Kingdom.
