Saudi Power Procurement Company Issues RFQ For Seventh Round Of Solar And Wind Projects Totaling 5,300 MW
The Saudi Power Procurement Company has issued a request for qualification (RFQ) for the seventh round of solar and wind projects. This initiative is part of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), overseen by the Ministry of Energy. The projects in this round aim to add a total capacity of 5,300 MW.
The NREP is designed to leverage Saudi Arabia's rich renewable resources. It seeks to create an optimal energy mix for electricity production. This effort also aims to reduce reliance on high-value liquid fuels in power generation.

Among the solar projects, Tabarjal two Solar PV IPP in Al-Jouf Region will have a capacity of 1,400 MW. Additionally, Mawqaq Solar PV IPP in Hail Region and Tathleeth Solar PV IPP in Aseer Region will each contribute 600 MW. South Al Ula Solar PV IPP in Madinah Region will add another 500 MW.
The wind projects include Bilghah Wind IPP and Shagran Wind IPP, both located in Madinah. These will provide capacities of 1,300 MW and 900 MW respectively. Together, these projects represent a significant step towards expanding renewable energy infrastructure.
The Principal Buyer plays a crucial role by conducting feasibility studies and managing tenders for electricity generation projects. They are also responsible for signing power purchase agreements with developer consortia.
So far, the Principal Buyer has initiated renewable electricity generation projects with a total capacity exceeding 43 GW. Out of these, agreements have been signed for over 38 GW worth of projects.
This ongoing effort reflects Saudi Arabia's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and reducing its carbon footprint through strategic investments in renewable energy sources.
