Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project Revitalises Al-Roasa Mosque To Preserve Heritage In Al-Majma'ah

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project is advancing its efforts to preserve historic mosques in Saudi Arabia. The second phase of this initiative includes the renovation of Al-Roasa Mosque in Al-Majma'ah Governorate. This project aims to protect the mosque's Islamic heritage and showcase its traditional architectural style, which has remained unchanged since its construction nearly 70 years ago.

Al-Roasa Mosque, built between 1946 and 1950, is located west of Munikh Mountain. It was constructed in the traditional Najdi style. The current renovation uses clay construction techniques and natural materials to expand the mosque's area to 705.76 square meters, allowing it to accommodate up to 210 worshippers.

Revitalising Al-Roasa Mosque in Al-Majma'ah

This mosque is part of a broader effort involving 30 mosques across all 13 regions of Saudi Arabia. In this phase, six mosques are being renovated in Riyadh, five in Makkah, four in Madinah, three in Aseer, and two each in the Eastern Region, Al-Jouf, and Jazan. Additionally, one mosque each is being restored in the Northern Borders, Tabuk, Al-Baha, Najran, Hail, and Qassim.

The project's first phase successfully restored 30 historic mosques across ten regions. Saudi companies that specialise in heritage restoration are leading these developments. The initiative balances traditional and modern construction standards to ensure sustainability while preserving historical characteristics.

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project has four strategic objectives: restoring historic mosques for worship, preserving their architectural authenticity, highlighting Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage, and enhancing their religious and cultural significance. These goals align with Vision 2030 by integrating architectural heritage into modern mosque designs.

This initiative underscores the importance of maintaining the cultural and historical essence of these sacred sites while adapting them for contemporary use. By doing so, it ensures that these mosques continue to serve as vital religious and community centres for future generations.
