President Mahmoud Abbas Urges Global Community To Reassess Ties With Israeli Occupying Power

President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine has highlighted the urgent need for action against the Israeli occupation forces' actions. He called on Arab and Islamic nations to push the Security Council and General Assembly to suspend Israel's UN membership unless it adheres to international law and stops its actions against Palestinians. This appeal was made during his speech at the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh.

Abbas urged global leaders to reconsider their ties with Israel, advocating against normalisation due to its ongoing disregard for international law. He emphasised that a General Assembly resolution calls for sanctions on Israel. Additionally, he appealed to summit attendees to protect Jerusalem, defend Al-Aqsa Mosque, and maintain the historical status of religious sites in the city.

Abbas Calls for Reevaluation of Ties with Israel

The Palestinian president stressed the importance of supporting efforts to establish Palestine as a full member of the United Nations. He called for implementing the Arab Peace Initiative and rallying international backing to bolster Palestinian resilience and national unity. Abbas also urged pressure on Israel's government to release funds and provide financial support.

He highlighted the necessity of protecting UNRWA's work in Palestine, ensuring it can continue its mission effectively. The president mentioned ongoing efforts to set up mechanisms for managing Gaza under Palestinian authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization's jurisdiction.

President Abbas expressed gratitude towards King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their efforts in supporting Palestinian statehood as a foundation for peace and stability. He also thanked them for hosting the summit, acknowledging their supportive stance towards Palestinians.

The president reiterated his call for an international coalition to support Palestine's statehood ambitions. He emphasised that this would help strengthen Palestinian unity and enable them to fulfil their duties effectively.

In conclusion, President Abbas urged continued mobilisation of international support for Palestine. He stressed that this is crucial in safeguarding Jerusalem, protecting religious sites, and maintaining Palestinian national unity amidst ongoing challenges.
