The United Arab Emirates and Pakistan recently held their second round of political consultations in Abu Dhabi. This session was led by Reem Ketait from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Shehryar Akbar Khan from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions aimed to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Before these consultations, a high-level meeting took place involving H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Mohammad Ishaq Dar. This meeting was part of the 12th session of the UAE-Pakistan Joint Ministerial Commission, also held in Abu Dhabi. Both sides expressed satisfaction with their enduring partnership.

UAE and Pakistan Discuss Cooperation

During the talks, both countries acknowledged the growth in economic relations, noting that non-oil trade had exceeded USD 8.6 billion in 2024. They discussed recent high-level visits that have contributed to this economic expansion and expressed optimism for future cooperation.

The discussions also covered regional developments, particularly focusing on the Middle East situation and recent United Nations Security Council deliberations. The UAE commended Pakistan's active participation as a non-permanent member of the Council and its preparations for assuming the presidency in July 2025.

Both nations emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination on Security Council issues. They reiterated their commitment to promoting peace, stability, and constructive solutions to regional challenges through continued collaboration.

In addition to bilateral matters, they reviewed their cooperation in multilateral forums. A key focus was ensuring the success of the 2026 UN Water Conference, which will be co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal. Both sides pledged to maintain regular consultations to achieve shared goals for mutual benefit.

The consultations were attended by notable officials including Hamad Obaid Alzaabi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, and Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan's Ambassador to the UAE. Their presence underscored the importance both countries place on these diplomatic engagements.
