Pogačar Dominates To Win Stage And Yellow Jersey At Tour De France 2024

Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates showcased an impressive performance on the final 800 metres of the Galibier and during the descent to Valloire. This effort secured him his first stage victory in the 2024 Tour de France, marking his 12th career win in the Grand Boucle, and earned him the yellow jersey once again.

The winning move by Pogačar on stage 4 (Pinerolo-Valloire, 139.6 km) was the highlight of a strong team effort. UAE Team Emirates set a fast pace on the Galibier climb (22.9 km at 5.1 percent gradient, summit 19.5 km from the finish) with contributions from Almeida, Yates, and Ayuso. Their efforts led to a significant selection among the top riders.

Pogačar then accelerated, with only Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a bike) able to follow initially. However, Vingegaard had to relent after 300 metres, reaching the summit with a 13-second gap behind Pogačar.

During the descent, Pogačar maintained flawless control, extending his lead over Vingegaard. Eventually, Vingegaard was caught by Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quickstep), who finished second, Juan Ayuso in third, and Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora) in fourth place.

Pogačar now leads the general classification with a 45-second advantage over Evenepoel and a 50-second lead over Vingegaard. Ayuso is currently fourth, trailing by 1 minute and 10 seconds.

Upcoming Stage

Stage 5 will commence from Saint Jean de Maurienne and conclude in Saint Vulbas, covering a distance of 177.4 km.

Pogačar reflected on his performance: "This was more or less the plan, and we executed it pretty well. It was like a dream stage, and finishing it off solo was very special. I wanted to hit hard today, as I was confident I could win and put some seconds on my rivals."

The team's strategy and Pogačar's execution were pivotal in securing this victory and positioning him as a strong contender for the overall title.
