Princess Lamia Bint Majid Al Saud Discusses Philanthropy And Individual Impact At SGI Talks
During the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) Talks, Princess Lamia Bint Majid Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, engaged in a discussion with Hala Albarrak from the Ministry of Economy and Planning. The conversation focused on philanthropy's role in enhancing life quality and environmental protection. Princess Lamia emphasised the need for a clear vision, strong partnerships, and data analysis to guide strategies and assess impact.
Princess Lamia stressed the importance of understanding communities by studying their traditions closely. She stated: "At Alwaleed Philanthropies, we pay respect to communities by studying them closely to understand their traditions." This approach helps tailor philanthropic efforts to meet specific community needs effectively.

Data collection plays a crucial role in shaping strategies and monitoring progress at Alwaleed Philanthropies. Princess Lamia explained: "I think it is our job as NGOs and NPOs to create awareness about what factors affect climate change." Last year, they introduced Atlai, an AI-powered tool that tracks global deforestation and afforestation trends.
Atlai has proven effective, generating over 35,000 reports and attracting more than one million website views. It serves as a valuable resource for governments, activists, and journalists by providing detailed reports on environmental changes worldwide.
Princess Lamia highlighted the power of individual actions in driving positive change. She noted how residents take initiative by placing recycling bins in their areas. "In every area nowadays, residents take initiative themselves… they put out recycling bins," she said. Such small actions can inspire others to care about environmental issues.
She concluded with a reminder of the significant impact individuals can have: "I encourage everyone not to underestimate the effect they have on people." This underscores the potential of personal contributions in fostering broader societal change.
