Parliamentary Diplomacy: The Shura Council's Active Role In Strengthening Global Ties

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, prioritises parliamentary diplomacy as a key aspect of its official diplomatic efforts. This approach involves engaging with international issues through various parliamentary organisations and unions worldwide.

During the eighth session of the Shura Council, which spanned four years, significant strides were made in strengthening ties with parliaments in friendly and brotherly nations. The council's delegations visited similar legislative bodies, meeting senior officials and holding joint discussions. These interactions highlighted the Shura Council's role in organisational and legislative matters.

The Shura Council has been proactive in activating mechanisms for parliamentary diplomacy to play a crucial role on both regional and international stages. This has been achieved through visits by council leaders to various countries, active participation in conferences, and establishing parliamentary friendship committees with global counterparts.

Throughout its eighth session, the Shura Council conducted at least 79 diplomatic visits involving senior officials. Additionally, its parliamentary friendship committees engaged in 176 activities with counterparts from brotherly and friendly nations. These efforts have significantly bolstered Saudi Arabia's parliamentary relations globally.

The Shura Council has actively participated in 111 international events and forums, engaging with parliamentary organisations, unions, and forums worldwide. This involvement underscores the council's commitment to enhancing Saudi Arabia's presence on the global stage through effective parliamentary diplomacy.

By attending these international gatherings, the Shura Council has showcased its dedication to fostering strong relationships with other parliaments. These efforts have not only strengthened ties but also provided opportunities to discuss pressing international issues collaboratively.

As the eighth session concluded, it was evident that the Shura Council had successfully enhanced its diplomatic relations with numerous parliaments globally.
