Parliamentary Diplomacy Advances As Saudi Shura Council Speaker Talks With Maldives Majlis

The Shura Council and the People’s Majlis of the Republic of Maldives discussed strengthening parliamentary and wider cooperation during an official meeting in Riyadh. The talks focused on supporting bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Maldives and advancing shared interests between the two countries and their peoples.

The meeting took place at the Shura Council headquarters, where Shura Council Speaker Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh met Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla. Abdul Raheem Abdulla is visiting the Kingdom at the head of a parliamentary delegation from the Maldives People’s Majlis as part of an official programme.

Parliamentary Talks deepen Maldives-Saudi ties

Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh welcomed Abdul Raheem Abdulla and the accompanying delegation, noting the wide-ranging development taking place in the Kingdom. Al Al-Sheikh referred to progress in multiple sectors under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

During the session, Al Al-Sheikh explained how the Shura Council carries out its work and described its institutional mechanisms. He underlined the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting official ties, stating that such engagement helps deepen bilateral relations, widen cooperation frameworks and address issues of mutual concern between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives.

Abdul Raheem Abdulla thanked the Shura Council for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the Maldivian delegation. He said the visit demonstrates the depth of historical and fraternal ties between the two states. He also highlighted the Kingdom’s important role as a key partner for the Maldives and its continuous support under different conditions.

The Maldivian speaker praised the Kingdom’s contribution to development and economic growth in the Maldives and pointed to cooperation in various fields. He also commended the services and facilities offered by Saudi Arabia to pilgrims, describing them as reflecting the Kingdom’s noble mission. The two sides reviewed ways to enhance cooperation, especially between the Shura Council and the People’s Majlis, and exchanged views on issues of common interest.
